A cloud of grief hangs over Riomwando 2 village in Marani Ward, Kitutu Chache North Constituency, Kisii County, following the discovery of a young man's lifeless body early Wednesday morning.

The body was found hanging from a tree near Simba Lodge, along a narrow footpath frequently used by villagers heading to their farms. It was locals who first stumbled upon the scene and quickly alerted the authorities.

Police officers from Marani Police Station responded swiftly, cordoning off the area to prevent tampering with potential evidence. The body was later moved to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it will undergo a post-mortem to confirm the cause of death.

Although the initial impression points to suicide, investigators have launched a comprehensive probe to rule out foul play and establish the full story behind the tragedy.

Residents described the deceased as a quiet and reserved individual.

His sudden death has not only shocked the village but also reignited concerns about mental health issues among young people in the region.

"This is not the first time we are witnessing such a case. Many of our young people are silently battling depression and other mental health challenges. We need urgent intervention," said one village elder.

Community leaders are now calling on both the national and county governments to prioritize mental health awareness, especially among the youth. They’re urging schools, churches, and local organizations to create safe spaces for young people to express themselves and seek help.

As the village mourns the loss of one of its own, many are left with painful questions and a deep desire to understand what could have driven the young man to such a tragic end. The investigation continues.
