Kenyans are reeling in shock after a disturbing video emerged showing anti-riot police officers in Nairobi shooting a hawker at close range along Moi Avenue. The hawker, reportedly selling face masks during Tuesday's protests calling for the resignation of Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat, was cornered, beaten, and shot in broad daylight.
In the widely shared footage, two officers are seen assaulting the man before one cocks his firearm and shoots him at point-blank range. The officers then flee the scene, leaving bystanders screaming in disbelief.
Good Samaritans rushed to the victim’s aid, carrying him away in a desperate attempt to save his life. His current condition remains unclear.
The brutal incident has sparked widespread condemnation. Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Faith Odhiambo called it “unacceptable,” adding to the growing outrage on social media where Kenyans are demanding accountability and justice.
As the nation awaits answers, the question on everyone’s mind is: how long will this culture of violence go unchecked?
