A bizarre incident has left residents of North East Kadem Location in Nyatike Sub-County in shock after a 40-year-old man was buried without a coffin, just hours after his death.

According to Chief John Bosco Akal, preliminary investigations revealed that the man was laid to rest wrapped in an old blanket instead of the customary coffin. His burial also lacked the usual funeral rites.

The chief explained that the family and community members refused to contribute towards his burial expenses, citing his failure to support others during similar occasions. Reports indicate that the deceased, who had been ailing for some time, was denied the dignity of a proper send-off because he allegedly never took part in community support during burials.

“No one was willing to pay mortuary fees, buy a coffin, or even organize the funeral rites. The family felt he did not deserve the support because he never helped others in their time of need,” Chief Akal stated.

Police have since summoned several relatives to record statements as investigations into the unusual burial continue.

The incident has sparked debate within the community on whether one’s past actions should determine how they are buried, with some condemning the act as inhumane, while others argue it serves as a lesson on the importance of communal responsibility.
