Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a new political party called the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP). This comes just days after he officially quit the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), saying the party had betrayed its original goals.
During the launch in Nairobi, Gachagua said UDA had abandoned the people who believed in it. “I will not be part of a party that no longer stands with the people,” he said.
Gachagua also announced the party’s interim leaders. Former UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala has been named the Deputy Party Leader. Other officials include:
Hezron Obatha – Secretary General
Martil Ole Kamwaro – Deputy Secretary General
Hannah Mutua – Treasurer
Wanjira Njoka – Deputy National Treasurer
Mithika Linturi – National Organising Secretary
Cate Waruguru – National Women’s Leader
The team is made up of both experienced politicians and new leaders. Gachagua says DCP will focus on real change and true leadership.
This new party could change the political scene as the country prepares for the 2027 elections. Many are watching to see if Gachagua’s new team will attract support from voters across Kenya.
