A shocking incident has emerged from Bosongo Hospital in Kitutu Central, Kisii County, involving an alleged attempt to murder 82-year-old Jacob Moseti. Police have arrested a 25-year-old community health nurse, Fiona Mogere, in connection with the plot. She is currently under suicide watch at Nyanchwa Police Station after being found with a pesticide believed to be intended for ingestion.
The incident began when two young men entered the male ward at Bosongo Hospital, claiming they were looking for a patient. Their behavior raised suspicion when they appeared unsure of who they wanted to see. It was later revealed that the men were carrying an insulin syringe loaded with an unidentified drug.
They approached a medical intern and offered him a bribe of Ksh 10,000 to record a video of himself injecting the drug into the elderly patient. Sensing danger, the intern acted quickly to protect the patient. He delayed the suspects by pretending to agree and used the opportunity to alert hospital authorities.
“I asked them how they would even know if I had given the injection. When they refused to leave, I told them I would go record the video and then come back for the money,” the intern explained.
According to Monica Ngeresa, the nurse in charge at Bosongo Hospital, the suspects initially planned to carry out the injection themselves but feared being questioned since they were not in uniform. This prompted them to look for someone within the hospital to do it for them.
The two suspects were later arrested and revealed Fiona Mogere as the person who gave them the syringe. Police believe the motive may be linked to a family dispute. Mr Moseti suspects the plot could be related to long-standing accusations from relatives who claim he practices witchcraft.
The three suspects will remain in custody for 14 days as investigations continue. From his hospital bed, Mzee Moseti reads his Bible, reflecting on his narrow escape. Despite his frail health, he says he is grateful to be alive.
