Governor Sakaja Pledges to Educate Albert Ojwang’s Son, Clear Widow’s College Fees
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has pledged full support to the family of Albert Ojwang, a teacher and influencer who died in police custody. Sakaja will educate Ojwang’s son, clear the widow’s college fees, secure her a job after graduation, and build rental units for the parents in Homa Bay. He also committed to investing public contributions in a money market fund for the child’s future and covering all burial expenses.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has pledged unwavering support to the family of the late Albert Ojwang, a teacher and social media influencer who tragically died while in police custody at Nairobi’s Central Police Station on June 8. His death has sparked widespread protests and renewed calls for accountability from law enforcement authorities.

Speaking after meeting Ojwang’s wife, son, and father at City Hall, Governor Sakaja expressed his deep sorrow and shared that he had known Albert personally.

“If you go through his Facebook and Twitter, you will see that he was a personal influencer, and we will walk with his family on this journey,” Sakaja said.

Governor Sakaja has committed to educating Ojwang’s three-year-old son, George Miles, and clearing the remaining college fees for Ojwang’s widow, who is currently in her final semester studying community health. He further assured her that upon completing her course, she would be offered a job within the county to help support herself and her child.

The governor also extended support to Ojwang’s parents, promising to buy land and build rental units for them in Homa Bay to ensure a stable source of income. In a forward-thinking move, Sakaja announced that all the contributions made by Kenyans toward the family would be invested in a money market fund to secure the child’s long-term future, rather than being spent on a single event.

Sakaja condemned the killing, stating that the country cannot afford to continue witnessing deaths that leave children fatherless and families devastated. He confirmed that the Nairobi County Government will fully cover the burial expenses.

The Governor’s commitment has been widely welcomed by the public, who had already rallied in support of Ojwang’s family after his father revealed the hardships they were facing. As Kenyans continue to demand justice, Sakaja’s promises offer a glimmer of hope and tangible support to a grieving family.
